Whoever Allah guides is truly guided.

Guidance is His to give, so ask Him for it

Two outcomes
guided by Allahnone can mislead
left astraythey are the losers
Where guidance comes from
my clevernessI will figure it out
Allahso I keep asking

After the story of a learned man who lost his way, the verse says whom Allah guides is the guided one. Ibn Kathir cites the opening words the Prophet ﷺ used, reported by Ibn Mas'ud: whom Allah guides, none can mislead; whom He misguides, none can guide.

You have read the books, watched the lectures, argued the points. Still you know people smarter than you who drifted away. Guidance is not a skill you master. It is a gift you keep asking for, seventeen times a day in al-Fatiha.

If I learn enough, I will stay on the right path.

Guidance is Allah's gift, so I keep asking for it humbly.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the guided one, and whomsoever He sends astray, – then those! They are the losers (178)

Allah says, whomever He leads aright, then none can lead him to misguidance, and whomever He leads astray, will have acquired failure, loss and sure misguidance. Verily, whatever Allah wills occurs; and whatever He does not will, does not occur. A Hadith narrated from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud reads,

(All praise is due to Allah, Whom we praise and seek help, guidance and forgiveness from. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils within ourselves and from the burden of our evil deeds. He whom Allah guides, will never be misled; and he whom He misguides, will never have one who will guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah without partners and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.) The complete Hadith was collected by Imam Ahmad and the collectors of Sunan and others.
