Al-A'raf · 7:183Makkah

I give them time, and My plan is firm.

Delay is not escape

What delay means
time givenlife goes on as usual
but
His planfirm, strong, perfect
How to read the respite
I got away with itnothing happened
time to turn backwhile it lasts

Following the last verse, Allah says He gives them time, and His plan is firm. Ibn Kathir explains it as prolonging what they are in, while the plan stays strong and perfect.

You did something wrong years ago and nothing came of it. It is easy to forget it, as if it never happened. The time you have been given is not proof you got away. It is the space to turn back.

Nothing bad happened, so it must not have mattered.

Allah's respite is time given to repent, not proof I escaped.

Try this

Think of an old wrong you have never repented from. Repent today, and fix what you can.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir (shared passage from 7:182)

Those who reject Our Ayat, We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not (182)And I respite them; certainly My plan is strong.) Allah sai (183)

(Those who reject Our Ayat, We shall gradually seize them in ways they perceive not) meaning, the doors of provisions will be opened for them and also the means of livelihood, in this life. They will be deceived by all this and think that they are on the correct path. Allah said in another instance,

(So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened for them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them (in punishment), and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrow. So the root of the people who did wrong was cut off. And all the praises and thanks are to Allah, the Lord of all that exists.)[6:44-45]. Allah said here,

(And I respite them) prolong what they are in,

(certainly My plan is strong) and perfect.
