Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers.

Look inside yourself. Nothing was made for nothing.

Creation has a purpose and a deadline

What creation says
made in truthnot in jest
for a set termuntil the Hour
yet many deny
meeting their Lordthe point of it all
What reflection shows
random, pointlessit all just is
purpose and endthen the meeting

Ibn Kathir says thinking about how Allah made things above and below shows they were not created in jest or in vain. They continue until an appointed time, the Day of Resurrection. Still, many deny they will meet their Lord.

Lying awake at 2am, you wonder what any of it is for. The job, the commute, the bills. It can all feel pointless. The verse turns you inward: you were made with intention, and there is a meeting at the end.

Life is just a series of things that happen.

My life was made on purpose, and it is heading to a meeting with my Lord.

Try this

Sit for two minutes today and ask yourself: what was I made for? Write one honest line.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir

وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ - بِنَصْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ

(And on that day, the believers will rejoice – with the help of Allah.) They will rejoice because the Romans, the companions of Caesar, the king of Ash-Sham, defeated the Persians, the companions of Chosroes, who were Zoroastrians. According to many of the scholars, such as Ibn Abbas, Ath-Thawri, As-Suddi and others, the victory of the Romans over the Persians happened on the same day as the battle of Badr. It was reported in the Hadith recorded by At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Abi Hatim and Al-Bazaar that Abu Said said: “On the day of Badr, the Romans defeated the Persians, and the believers were happy and rejoiced about that. And Allah revealed the words:

وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ -ِنَصْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ يَنصُرُ مَن يَشَاءُ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ

(And on that day, the believers will rejoice – with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.) Ibn Abi Htim recorded that Az-Zubayr Al-Kilabi said, I saw the victory of the Persians over the Romans, then I saw the victory of the Romans over the Persians, then I saw the victory of the Muslims over both the Persian and Romans, and all of that happened within fifteen years.” Allah’s saying:
