Not one atom of injustice, ever, from Him
Al-Adl: the Just, who wrongs no one and gives every soul its full due
Who He is as Al-Adl
Al-Adl is the Just. The name is in the well-known list in Jami' al-Tirmidhi, and it is a noun, as if to say He is justice itself. The Quran says Allah does not do injustice even as much as an atom's weight, and if there is a good deed He multiplies it (4:40). In a hadith qudsi He says: O My servants, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another (Sahih Muslim).
His justice is not the cold justice of a machine. He deals with sin by justice and with good by grace. A bad deed is written as one; a good deed is multiplied many times. No one carries another's burden, and no one is asked for more than they can bear. Justice is the floor of how He treats you; everything above it is generosity.
Human justice is limited by missing facts, bias and fear. His justice rests on complete knowledge. And everything belongs to Him, so when He gives or takes back, He is never acting in someone else's property. A human king may abuse his power; Allah is never oppressive to His servants.
Where you see Al-Adl at work
You see Al-Adl in the balance of creation: the heaven He raised and the balance He set (55:7), orbits held in measure, the air mixed in exact proportions that keep you alive with every breath. A world built by an unjust or careless hand would fall apart.
You see Him in His law. Allah commands justice and good conduct and forbids oppression (16:90). His law protects life, faith, mind, family and wealth, and it forbids you from wronging even someone you hate. And you will see Him most clearly on the Day of Resurrection, when the scales of justice are set up and no soul is wronged at all, and even a mustard seed's weight of deed is brought forward (21:47).
Handing your affairs to Him
When life seems unfair, when the illness comes to you and not to them, or the less honest colleague is promoted, remember that this life is not the whole ledger. The Prophet ﷺ taught that no hardship, worry or even a thorn's prick touches a believer except that Allah removes some of their sins by it (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim). Nothing you endure patiently is lost; all of it is weighed.
When you fear for your own record, His justice is good news too: you will not carry anyone else's sins, and your good is multiplied. Saying Allah is unfair borrows the logic of a short life and forgets the rest of the story. Allah does not wrong people at all; it is people who wrong themselves (10:44).
The test results come back, and you sit in the hospital car park asking why you, when you did everything right. It feels unfair, and that feeling is real. Al-Adl has not wronged you by an atom, and every hour of this is being counted for you. Let yourself cry, then talk to Him honestly about it.
When things go badly for me and well for others, I quietly feel that life, and even Allah, is unfair.
Allah wrongs no one even an atom's weight, so nothing I suffer or give is ever lost or miscounted.
Why the heart loves Him for it
Children love a parent who is fair between them. They feel safe, they stop competing, they rest. Knowing your Lord will never wrong you by an atom lets the heart rest in Him completely. And knowing He has forbidden injustice for Himself makes you want to be fair to others, because you want to be like what He loves.
O Allah, You are Al-Adl and You wrong no one. Deal with me by Your grace and not only by Your justice, and make me fair in my words, my home and my work.
Call on Him by this name when life feels unfair, and when you are tempted to treat others unjustly, remembering that He has forbidden injustice for Himself.Be exactly fair in one small thing today: split a bill honestly, pay someone their full due promptly, or hear both sides before judging.
