اَلْبَاقِي

Al-Baqi · The Everlasting One

Al-Baqi (اَلْبَاقِي) means the Everlasting: Allah endures forever, untouched by decay, change or ending, while everything else fades and perishes. It matters to you because it shows you where to invest your heart: in Him, and in the deeds that last with Him.

Rootب ق يThe root means to remain, to stay, to be left over after other things are gone. Baqa is continuance; al-baqiyat are the things that endure. Said of Allah, it means a permanence that is His by nature, not a long life that might one day end.

Who He is as Al-Baqi

The name comes from the verse: everyone upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of majesty and honour (55:26-27). The word for remain is yabqa. Al-Baqi is the One whose existence never wears out. He does not age, change, decline or end. Everything else, from galaxies to grains of sand, is perishing even now.

His permanence is not like a very old tree or a very long reign. Created things last only as long as He keeps them. His lasting is His own, part of His perfection, without beginning and without end. Everything will be destroyed except His Face (28:88).

Near names look at the end from different sides. Al-Akhir is about order: He is last, after everything, and the goal of everything. Al-Warith is about ownership: what people held returns to Him. Al-Baqi is about permanence itself: amid a universe of decay, He endures, and so does whatever is done for Him.

Where you see Al-Baqi at work

The Quran sets two lists side by side. Whatever you have will run out, but what is with Allah lasts (16:96). Wealth and children are the adornment of worldly life, but the lasting good deeds, al-baqiyat as-salihat, are better with your Lord (18:46). The magicians of Pharaoh, threatened with crucifixion, saw it in a moment: Allah is better and more lasting (20:73).

Look at what humans have tried in the search for permanence: monuments, dynasties, now freezing bodies and spending fortunes on delaying death. Old palaces stand empty and the names on them are forgotten. Every attempt confirms the same truth: only One is everlasting.

Handing your affairs to Him

Loss hurts most when we thought something would last. We pour our whole heart into things that were always going to fade: youth, health, a career, a home, even people, and when they go, it feels like the ground has gone with them. Al-Baqi is ground that never moves. Attach the heart to Him first, and other losses, though painful, cannot destroy you.

It also turns your work into an investment. A kind word, a prayer in the night, a child raised well, charity no one saw: what is done for Al-Baqi is kept with Al-Baqi, and does not run out. Your effort in a fading world is not wasted when it is sent ahead to the One who lasts.

Your phone warns that storage is full. Scrolling through years of photos, you see faces of people who have died, places that no longer exist, a version of yourself that is gone. Everything on that screen is temporary. Al-Baqi is not, and the good deeds behind those memories are kept with Him.

I want to hold on to things and people forever, and losing them breaks me.

Only Al-Baqi is forever; I love what I have gently and send ahead what lasts with Him.

Why the heart loves Him for it

We are made to long for forever. Lovers promise it, songs ask for it, and no human being can deliver it. That longing is a pointer to Al-Baqi, the only One who can be loved without the fear of losing Him to time. Every passing beauty is a small reminder of the One who never passes.

Call on Him

Ya Baqi, everything I love is passing and You remain. Attach my heart to You, accept my deeds as lasting good with You, and let me meet You with what endures.

Call on Him by this name when grieving a loss or when the world feels too precious to let go.
Try this today

Do one deed today purely as an investment with Him: a hidden charity, a call to a lonely relative, or two units of prayer at night.
