الْوَاجِدُ

Al-Wajid · The Perceiver

Al-Wajid (الْوَاجِدُ) means the Finder, the One who lacks nothing: everything He wills is present to Him, nothing is ever lost from Him, and He is never in want or need. It means that what you have lost is not lost to Him, and that whoever truly seeks Him will find Him, forgiving and merciful.

Rootو ج دWajada means to find, to come upon something so it is present with you. From it comes wujd, having means, the opposite of lacking (65:6). The wajid is the one who has, who finds, who is not in want. Al-Wajid has everything He wills, and nothing ever escapes Him.

Al-Wajid in the Quran

[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].

Who He is as Al-Wajid

Al-Wajid is the One who has everything He wills, so He is never in want. Scholars explain this name as the opposite of the one who has lost something: nothing ever goes missing from Allah, and nothing He wants is ever out of reach. Whatever He seeks, He finds; whatever He wills, is already with Him.

This name stands near Al-Ghaniyy, the Free of need, and Al-Majid, the Glorious, which follows it in the well-known list of names narrated by at-Tirmidhi. Al-Ghaniyy stresses that He needs nothing. Al-Wajid stresses that He has and finds everything. Human beings lose keys, money, health, people and time. Al-Wajid never loses anything, and His possession of all things never weakens.

This name is not used as a title in the Quran, but its verb runs through the Quran in some of its most tender verses, often describing what Allah found in His servants, or what His servants will find in Him.

Where you see Al-Wajid at work

Allah reminds the Prophet ﷺ: did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter? Did He not find you unaware of the way and guide you? Did He not find you in need and make you self-sufficient (93:6-8)? Before the Prophet ﷺ looked for Allah, Allah had found him and cared for him.

Of Ayyub, after years of illness and loss, Allah says: We found him patient, an excellent servant, always turning back (38:44). Allah found in him what He loves.

And there is a finding that waits for every person. Whoever does wrong or wrongs himself and then asks Allah for forgiveness will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful (4:110). The one who chased mirages all his life will run toward what he thought was water, find nothing, and find Allah there before him (24:39). Everyone will find Allah in the end; the question is whether they find Him as their Forgiver.

Handing your affairs to Him

When you lose something, a job, a loved one, a chance, a part of your health, the loss can feel total. With Al-Wajid, nothing is truly lost. He knows where everything is, He can return what He wills, and what He does not return He replaces with something better or keeps for you with Him.

This name also comforts the one who feels lost. You may not know where you are going or who you are anymore. But Al-Wajid found the orphan and sheltered him, found the one unaware and guided him. Thinking you are too far gone to be found forgets who is looking for you.

And it invites you to seek Him. Turn to Him with repentance and you are promised to find Him Forgiving and Merciful (4:110). No one who searched for Allah sincerely ever came back empty-handed.

You are standing in your parents' empty house after the funeral, holding something small of theirs, feeling as if part of you has been lost for good. Al-Wajid has lost nothing; they are with Him, known and kept. Make dua for them, and let Him find you in your grief.

What I have lost is gone for good, and I feel lost myself.

Nothing is ever lost to Al-Wajid, and He has always known exactly where to find me.

Why the heart loves Him for it

Being found when you were lost is one of the deepest kinds of love a person can know. Al-Wajid found you before you ever looked for Him.

And He is never in need of you, yet He still wants you to come and find Him. Love grows from realising that the One who has everything still opens His door to you.

Call on Him

Ya Wajid, You lack nothing and lose nothing. Find me where I am lost, return to me what is good, and let me find You Forgiving and Merciful.

Call on Him by this name after a loss or when you feel spiritually lost, trusting His promise that whoever seeks forgiveness will find Him Forgiving and Merciful (4:110).
