28:75

وَنَزَعۡنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٖ شَهِيدٗا فَقُلۡنَا هَاتُواْ بُرۡهَٰنَكُمۡ فَعَلِمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ لِلَّهِ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفۡتَرُونَ

WanazaAAna min kulli ommatin shaheedan faqulna hatoo burhanakum faAAalimoo anna alhaqqa lillahi wadalla AAanhum ma kanoo yaftaroona

And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allah, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.

Mujahid said the witness from every nation means a Messenger. Then they are asked for proof of their claim that Allah had partners. Ibn Kathir says they will not speak and will not find any answer; the lies they invented will vanish.

You have explanations ready for the things you know are wrong: stress, everyone does it, it is complicated. Picture saying them in front of Allah. If they fade even in your imagination, let them go now.

I can always explain my choices if asked.

Before Allah only the truth stands, and invented excuses vanish.

And the Day when He will call to them, and will say: "Where are My (so-called) partners, whom you used to assert? (74)And We shall take out from every nation a witness, and We shall say: "Bring your proof." Then they shall know that the truth is with Allah, and the lies which they invented will disappear from them (75)

Rebuking the Idolators

This is another call by way of rebuke for those who worshipped other gods besides Allah. The Lord, may He be exalted, will call to them before all the witnesses, and will say:

 أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِيَ الَّذِينَ كُنْتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَ

(Where are My (so-called) partners, whom you used to assert?) meaning, in this world.

وَنَزَعْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا

(And We shall take out from every nation a witness,) Mujahid said, "This means a Messenger."

فَقُلْنَا هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ

(and We shall say: "Bring your proof.") meaning, 'of the truth of your claim that Allah had any partners.'

فَعَلِمُوا أَنَّ الْحَقَّ لِلَّهِ

(Then they shall know that the truth is with Allah,) meaning, that there is no god besides Him. Then they will not speak and they will not be able to find any answer.

وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ

(and the lies which they invented will disappear from them.) they will vanish and will be of no benefit to them.
