The real thing in a world of counterfeits
The Truth whose love, promise and word never disappoint
Who He is as Al-Haqq
Al-Haqq is the One whose existence is real in the fullest sense: not borrowed, not temporary, not dependent. Everything else exists because He brought it into being and holds it there. He is the reality behind all realities. That is Allah, your Lord, the Truth; and what is there after truth except error (10:32)?
The name carries the other senses of haqq too. His words are true, His promises come to pass, and His actions put everything in its rightful place. He gives every creature its due. On the Day of Judgment people will know that Allah is the clear Truth (24:25), paying everyone in full what they deserve.
It overlaps with Al-Adl, the Just, and Al-Hakim, the Wise, but its centre is reality itself: He is real, and anything set up beside Him is empty.
Where you see Al-Haqq at work
Surah al-Hajj opens and closes with this name like a frame. Near its start: that is because Allah is the Truth, and He gives life to the dead (22:6). Near its end: that is because Allah is the Truth, and what they call on besides Him is falsehood (22:62). In between it speaks of the Day of Judgment, the day when everything fake is stripped away and only what was real remains.
The Quran describes the deeds of those who rejected Him as a mirage in a desert: the thirsty man runs toward it, and when he arrives he finds nothing, but finds Allah there (24:39). And it records the call of the people of Paradise: we have found what our Lord promised us to be true (7:44).
Handing your affairs to Him
Think of the fake designer shoes bought cheaply in a market. They look right for two months, then fall apart. So much of life is like that: the car that was sold as happiness, the holiday that was sold as peace, the relationship expected to be paradise on earth. Expectations run ahead and reality falls short. Every created thing has some counterfeit in it, because it is not Al-Haqq.
He is the real thing. His love keeps your heart beating even while you ignore Him. His promise does not fail. When you stop demanding from people what only Al-Haqq can give, you stop being crushed by them, and you can love them for what they are. And when trials shake you, you hold on as the believers did when surrounded by armies: this is what Allah promised, and His promise is true.
Two weeks after unboxing the phone you saved months for, it is just a phone. The excitement has gone, and you are already looking at the next model. Notice the pattern. Every new thing promises more than it gives. Put it down and spend ten minutes with the Quran, the word of the One who never oversells.
The next thing I get, the next person I meet, will finally make me happy.
Only Al-Haqq is wholly real and never disappoints; everything else I can enjoy without expecting it to be Him.
Why the heart loves Him for it
After enough disappointments, the heart grows wary of loving anything fully. Al-Haqq is the one place where that wariness can finally rest. His mercy is genuine, His love has no hidden conditions, and He has never broken a promise. To love the Real after a lifetime of imitations is to come home.
O Allah, You are Al-Haqq, Your promise is true, meeting You is true, Paradise is true and the Fire is true. Show me truth as truth and help me follow it, and free me from chasing illusions.
This echoes the supplication the Prophet ﷺ said when rising for the night prayer, reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.Learn the opening of the Prophet's night prayer supplication: Antal-haqq, wa wa'dukal-haqq: You are the Truth, and Your promise is true.
