Al-Hijr · 15:64Makkah

Truth came, and the messengers said it plainly.

We have brought the truth, and we are truthful

Their assurance
the truththe decree from Allah
for Luthe will be saved
for his peoplethey will be destroyed
Angels come with
on requestwhen people demand them
with the truthwhen Allah decrees

Ibn Kathir links this to 15:8: We do not send the angels down except with the truth. Earlier in this surah, Makkah had demanded angels as proof. Here is what angels look like when they come: a decree, not a show.

You keep asking for a sign before you change: a dream, a miracle, a perfect moment. When the real sign comes, it comes with consequences already attached. It is kinder to act on the message you already have.

If Allah wanted me to change, He would send me a clear sign.

The signs I already have are mercy; a final sign arrives carrying the outcome.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir (shared passage from 15:61)

Then when the messengers (the angels) came to the family of Lu (61)He (Lut) said: "Verily, you are people unknown to me. (62)They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. (63)"And we have brought you the truth and certainly we tell the truth. (64)

The Angels coming to Lut

Allah tells us about when the angels came to Lut in the form of young men with handsome faces. When they entered his home, he said:

إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ - قَالُوا بَلْ جِئْنَاكَ بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ

("Verily, you are people unknown to me." They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting.") meaning that they were bringing the punishment and destruction that the people doubted they would ever suffer from.

وَأَتَيْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ

(And we have brought you the truth) is like the Ayah,

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ

(We do not send the angels down except with the truth)[15:8] and

وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ

(and certainly, we tell the truth.) They said this in affirmation of the news that they brought him, that he would be saved and his people would be destroyed.
