Madyanمدين

The Quran gives no dateMadyan (al-Bad'), north-west Arabia

Madyan were traders on the caravan routes who cheated in weights and measures and blocked people from Allah's path. Their brother Shuayb told them to give full measure. They asked whether his prayer told him that they must leave their fathers' gods and stop doing as they pleased with their wealth (11:87). Later, Musa found refuge in Madyan and married there.

What does the Quran say?

And O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.

Quran 11:85

How did they end?

An earthquake and a mighty blast seized them, and they lay dead in their homes as if they had never lived there (7:91-92, 11:94-95).

What do historians say?

Ptolemy's geography places a town called Modiana near the Gulf of Aqaba. At al-Bad' in Saudi Arabia, rock-cut tombs known as Maghayir Shuayb, 'the caves of Shuayb', are Nabataean in style; the Bible's Midianites lived in this region.
