Yajuj and Majuj
Nation of the Quran
Yajuj and Majujيأجوج ومأجوج
The Quran gives no dateCaucasus (one opinion)
Dhul-Qarnayn found a people between two mountains who complained that Yajuj and Majuj were spreading corruption in the land (18:94). He built a barrier of iron and molten copper that they could neither climb nor pierce (18:96-97), and said it would stand until his Lord's promise came.
What does the Quran say?
Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend
Quran 21:96
How did they end?
Their end has not yet come. Near the Hour the barrier will give way and they will pour down from every height (21:96); the Prophet ﷺ said Allah will destroy them in the time of Isa (Reported by Muslim).
What do historians say?
Writers have linked the barrier to the Sasanian walls of Derbent in the Caucasus, the Caspian Gates, or the Iron Gate in Uzbekistan, but no barrier of iron and copper has been found.
The lesson
No wall stands forever; only Allah's promise is certain.
