People of the Town (Ya-Sin)أصحاب القرية
The Quran gives no dateAntioch (commentators' view)
Allah sent two messengers to a town, then strengthened them with a third (36:14). The people called them liars and threatened to stone them. A man came running from the far end of the city, urging his people to follow the messengers (36:20); the commentators say they killed him, and he was told to enter Paradise (36:26).
What does the Quran say?
And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.
Quran 36:20
How did they end?
No army was sent down against them: there was only one shout, and they were extinguished (36:28-29).
What do historians say?
Many commentators named the town Antioch (Antakya), where the mosque of Habib al-Najjar stands; it was badly damaged in the 2023 earthquake. Ibn Kathir doubted this, since Antioch was not destroyed and was an early Christian city.
The lesson
One brave voice is remembered by Allah even when a whole city ignores it.
