A former slave who ruled Egypt as sultan for about eighty days and opened the Mamluk era.

She hid her husband's death to keep the army fighting Louis IX. After Turan Shah was killed, the Mamluks made her sultan, and coins were struck in her name. Under pressure from Baghdad she married the commander Aybak and gave up the throne. She was killed in 1257.
