The Two Disputants of Dawudالخصم
Traditional date, disputedJerusalem
Two who climbed into Dawud's prayer chamber with a case about ninety-nine ewes and one.
Dawud was alarmed when two litigants climbed the wall of his prayer room. One said his brother had ninety-nine ewes and wanted his single one too. Dawud ruled that the brother had wronged him. Then he realised he was being tested, fell down bowing and turned to Allah, who forgave him.
What does the Quran say?
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah].
Quran 38:24
