Jerusalemالقدس
City of Dawud and Sulayman, first qiblah of Islam and goal of the Night Journey.
Dawud made it his capital and Sulayman built the house of worship. Rome razed it and renamed it Aelia; in 637 Umar travelled from Madinah to receive its keys and guaranteed its people their churches and lives. Crusaders took it in 1099 with great slaughter, and Salah al-Din restored it to Muslim rule in 1187 without revenge.
