Husayn's son, who survived Karbala and became famed for worship and charity.
Ali ibn al-Husayn was too ill to fight at Karbala and survived. He returned to Madinah and devoted his life to prayer, earning the name Zayn al-Abidin. It is said that after he died, people found he had secretly carried food to a hundred poor households at night. Sunni scholars such as al-Zuhri praised his knowledge and character.
