A descendant of the Prophet ﷺ through Husayn who taught both Abu Hanifa and Malik.

Through his mother he also descended from Abu Bakr. He taught in Madinah, and Abu Hanifa and Malik both learned from him. Sunni scholars honour him as a trustworthy imam, while Twelver and Ismaili Shia regard him as the sixth Imam and base their Ja'fari law on his teaching.

What grew out of it?

He is one of the few figures revered by Sunnis and Shia alike.
