أبو رافع بن أبي الحقيق

Abu Rafi' of Khaybar

Who funded the war on Madinah624–628 CE

Relied onHis wealth and his fortress

Undone byAbdullah ibn Atik in the dark

Sallam ibn Abi al-Huqayq, a rich merchant of Khaybar, used to harm the Prophet ﷺ and help his enemies against him with his wealth.

How it ended

Abdullah ibn Atik slipped into his fortress at night and killed him, then broke his leg on the stairs. The Prophet ﷺ passed his hand over it and it healed.

Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.

Quran 8:36

The lessonWealth spent to block the way of Allah becomes a regret (8:36).
