al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi

The liar of Thaqif685–687 CE

Relied onVengeance for Husayn, and claims of revelation

Undone byMus'ab ibn al-Zubayr

He took Kufa in the name of avenging Husayn and hunted down his killers, among them Ibn Ziyad. The historians report that he then claimed Jibril came to him, and spoke in rhymed prophecies.

How it ended

Mus'ab ibn al-Zubayr besieged him in Kufa and he was killed in 687.

And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or says, "It has been inspired to me," while nothing has been inspired to him …

Quran 6:93
