أبي بن خلف

Ubayy ibn Khalaf

Who crumbled a bone613–625 CE

Relied onA horse he fattened for the day

Undone byA graze from the Prophet's ﷺ spear

Brother of Umayyah ibn Khalaf. He crumbled an old bone in front of the Prophet ﷺ and asked who could give it life. He swore he would kill the Prophet ﷺ on a horse he was feeding for that day.

How it ended

At Uhud he charged the Prophet ﷺ, who took a spear and grazed his neck. He died of the wound on the way back to Makkah, the only man the Prophet ﷺ killed with his own hand.

Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing."

Quran 36:79

The lessonHe who made them the first time will give them life again (36:79).
