The Wife of Ayyub, The patient wife

In the Quran

In the QuranThe patient wife

The Wife of Ayyubامرأة أيوب

Hawran, Syria

Ayyub's wife, who stayed by him through years of illness and loss.

When Ayyub lost his health, wealth and children, she alone, the commentators say, remained to care for him. Ayyub once swore in anger to strike her. When Allah healed him, He gave him an easy way to keep the oath without harming her: take a bundle of grass and strike with it. He also restored his family to him, and doubled.

What does the Quran say?

[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].

Quran 38:44
