The Woman Who Undid Her Yarnالتي نقضت غزلها

Makkah

A woman in a Quranic image who spun strong thread, then unravelled it: a picture of breaking promises.

Allah warns: do not be like her who undid her spun thread after it was strong, by using your oaths to deceive one another. The commentators say there was such a woman in Makkah who spun all day and undid it in the evening. The image fits anyone who builds trust and then throws it away.

What does the Quran say?

And do not be like she who untwisted her spun thread after it was strong [by] taking your oaths as [means of] deceit between you because one community is more plentiful [in number or wealth] than another community. Allah only tries you thereby. And He will surely make clear to you on the Day of Resurrection that over which you used to differ.

Quran 16:92
