The Companions of the Garden, Brothers who refused the poor
In the QuranBrothers who refused the poor
The Companions of the Gardenأصحاب الجنة
Near Sana'a, Yemen (commentators)
Brothers who swore to harvest their orchard at dawn so no poor person could share it, and lost it overnight.
They vowed to pick their fruit early in the morning and said no 'if Allah wills'. In the night a calamity swept the garden, leaving it like a harvested field. They set out whispering: let no poor person come in on you today. Seeing it ruined, they thought they were lost. The most moderate of them reminded them, and they repented.
What does the Quran say?
Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning
Quran 68:17
