Bilqisبلقيس

Traditional date, disputedMarib, Yemen

The wise Queen of Saba who consulted her council, tested Sulayman with a gift, and submitted to Allah.

The hoopoe found her people worshipping the sun. Sulayman's letter began: in the name of Allah, the Most Merciful. She asked her chiefs' advice and sent a gift rather than war. When she came to Sulayman, her own throne was there before her, and his glass floor looked like water. She said: I submit with Sulayman to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

What does the Quran say?

She was told, "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her shins [to wade through]. He said, "Indeed, it is a palace [whose floor is] made smooth with glass." She said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds."
