The Magicians of Firaunسحرة فرعون

Traditional date, disputedEgypt

Egypt's best sorcerers, brought to defeat Musa, who instead fell down in prostration and believed.

They came on the day of the festival hoping for a reward. Their ropes and staffs seemed to slither, but Musa's staff swallowed what they had faked. They knew it was no magic and fell prostrate: we believe in the Lord of Harun and Musa. Firaun threatened to cut off their hands and feet and crucify them. They answered: decide what you will.

What does the Quran say?

They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.
