The Nile land where Yusuf rose to power and Musa faced Firaun, named in the Quran as Misr.
Yusuf rose here from slave to keeper of the storehouses, and Musa confronted Firaun here. Hajar, mother of Ismail, came from Egypt, as did Mariya, mother of the Prophet's ﷺ son Ibrahim. Amr ibn al-As opened it in 641, and it became the seat of the Fatimids, Ayyubids and Mamluks.
