Mus'ab ibn Umayrمصعب بن عمير

Approximate dateUhud, Madinah

A wealthy, well-dressed youth of Makkah who left everything and became Islam's first teacher in Madinah.

His mother cut him off when he became Muslim. In 621 the Prophet ﷺ sent him to Yathrib, where he taught the Quran so well that the leaders of the Aws and Khazraj accepted Islam. He carried the banner at Uhud and was killed there. He owned so little that his cloak could not cover both his head and feet.
