Mount Uhudجبل أحد

The red mountain north of Madinah where the Muslims learned a hard lesson in obedience.

In 625 Quraysh came to avenge Badr. When the archers left their post on a hill to gather spoils, Khalid ibn al-Walid's cavalry struck from behind; about seventy Muslims were martyred, among them Hamzah, buried at the mountain's foot. Yet the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Uhud is a mountain that loves us, and we love it.'
