The Mosque of Ibn Tulun
Ahmad ibn Tulun, Egypt's governor, builds a vast mosque with a spiral minaret like Samarra's. It is the oldest mosque in Cairo still in its first form.
How it touches Islam Egypt now ran its own affairs while praying for the caliph, the first of many such dynasties along the Nile.
