A caliph in Cairo

Three years after Baghdad falls, Baybars seats a surviving Abbasid prince as caliph in Cairo. The Mamluks hold the power; the caliphs give it their blessing.

How it touches Islam The Cairo caliphs lasted until 1517, when the Ottomans took the last of them to Istanbul.
