Al-Walid I builds the Great Mosque of Damascus where a church once stood. Inside is a shrine said to hold the head of Yahya. One minaret bears the name of Isa.
How it touches Islam The Prophet ﷺ said Isa will descend by the white minaret east of Damascus; many link this to the mosque's eastern minaret.
