Al-Biruni's India

Al-Biruni, who travelled with Mahmud's armies, learns Sanskrit and writes a careful, fair study of India's religion, science and customs.

How it touches Islam It is one of the first works of comparative religion, in the spirit of 49:13: peoples made to know one another.

Al-BiruniMahmud of Ghazna

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

Dates before 1000 BCE are estimates, and for the earliest prophets the Quran gives the order of events but not their years.
