Basra and Kufa

Basra and Kufa are founded as camp towns for the armies in Iraq. Within a century they are great cities of Quran reading, grammar and law.

How it touches Islam Most Muslims today recite the Quran in the reading of Asim of Kufa as passed on by Hafs, and Arabic grammar was first written down in Basra.

Dates before 1000 BCE are estimates, and for the earliest prophets the Quran gives the order of events but not their years.
