The Aghlabids of Kairouan land in Sicily under the judge and scholar Asad ibn al-Furat. Palermo falls in 831 and is a Muslim city for two centuries.
How it touches Islam Asad had studied with Imam Malik in Madinah, so the law of Madinah crossed with him into Europe.
