The first Ottoman press

Ibrahim Muteferrika prints the first book in Ottoman Turkish, a dictionary. His press prints maps, histories and science, but not the Quran.

How it touches Islam Printing the Quran was long resisted, out of reverence for the hand-written word and the scribes who wrote it.

Dates before 1000 BCE are estimates, and for the earliest prophets the Quran gives the order of events but not their years.
