Damascus surrendered to Khalid ibn al-Walid and Abu Ubaydah in 634. As the Umayyad capital it ruled from Spain to Sindh, and al-Walid built its Great Mosque in 705. Nur al-Din and Salah al-Din ruled from here, and the Prophet ﷺ said Isa will descend by a white minaret east of Damascus.
