A Yogyakarta preacher who founded Muhammadiyah, now running thousands of schools and hospitals.

After study in Makkah he founded Muhammadiyah in 1912 to purify practice and build modern schools, clinics and orphanages under Dutch rule. His wife Siti Walidah led its women's wing, Aisyiyah.
