Ibn Taymiyyahابن تيمية

Damascus

A Damascus scholar who resisted the Mongols in word and battle and died in prison.

His family fled Harran from the Mongols when he was a boy. He urged resistance to the Ilkhanid invasions and rode with the Mamluk army at Shaqhab in 1303. His sharp positions on creed and practice brought him repeated jailings, and he died in the citadel of Damascus.

What grew out of it?

His writings on belief and law, revived by later reformers, are among the most influential of recent centuries.
