A grammarian whose tafsir al-Kashshaf is prized for showing the Quran's eloquence.

Born in Zamakhshar in Khwarazm, he lived long in Makkah and was called 'Jar Allah', neighbour of God. Al-Kashshaf explains the Quran's language and rhetoric with rare skill.

What grew out of it?

Later commentators such as al-Baydawi kept his insights on language.
