Aleppo

A Hanafi jurist whose signature appeared on fatwas beside her father's and husband's.

Daughter of Ala al-Din al-Samarqandi, author of Tuhfat al-Fuqaha, she knew his book by heart. Her husband al-Kasani wrote a celebrated commentary on it, accepted as her dowry, and she corrected him when he erred. In Aleppo, under Nur al-Din, she taught and gave fatwas.

What grew out of it?

Her household produced one of the great books of Hanafi law, Bada'i al-Sana'i.
