A Naqshbandi scholar who called the Mughal elite back to the Sharia after Akbar's experiments.

When the emperor Akbar promoted a court cult blending faiths, Sirhindi insisted on the Sharia and the Sunnah through hundreds of letters to nobles. Jahangir jailed him for about a year at Gwalior, then released and honoured him.

What grew out of it?

His followers called him Mujaddid Alf Thani; his Mujaddidi branch of the Naqshbandiyya spread from India to the Ottoman lands.
