Suleiman's chief mufti, who worked to bring Ottoman state law into line with the Sharia.

As Shaykh al-Islam for nearly thirty years, he issued thousands of fatwas and harmonised Ottoman land and tax law with Hanafi law. He also wrote a respected tafsir, Irshad al-Aql al-Salim.

What grew out of it?
