A Cairo scholar who began the short and clear Tafsir al-Jalalayn.

Known for piety and for refusing a judgeship, he wrote a brief tafsir from Surah al-Kahf to the end, and al-Fatihah. Al-Suyuti finished the first half after his death, and the joint work was named after the two Jalals.
