A Hanbali preacher of Baghdad whose followers formed the first widespread Sufi order.

He came to Baghdad at eighteen, studied Hanbali law, and became a preacher whose sermons moved great crowds to repentance. His school trained students from many lands, and his talks are collected in al-Fath al-Rabbani.

What grew out of it?

The Qadiriyya spread from Iraq to Africa, India and Southeast Asia.
