A descendant of the Prophet ﷺ whose home in Cairo was a centre of learning, visited by al-Shafi'i.

A great-granddaughter of Hasan ibn Ali, she memorised the Quran young, studied in Madinah and settled in Egypt. Al-Shafi'i attended her gatherings and asked for her prayers, and when he died his bier was brought to her house so she could pray over him.

What grew out of it?

Her shrine and mosque in Cairo remain among the city's most loved.
