His Risalah set out the Sufi path in the language of Sunni law and creed.

A Shafi'i and Ash'ari scholar of Nishapur, he wrote al-Risalah al-Qushayriyyah to show that true Sufism agrees with the Sharia, and warned against those who used it as an excuse for laxity. He also wrote a Sufi tafsir, Lata'if al-Isharat.
