The Round City of Peace, capital of the Abbasids and home of the House of Wisdom.

The caliph al-Mansur founded it in 762 as a round 'City of Peace' on the Tigris. Under Harun al-Rashid and al-Ma'mun it was among the largest cities on earth, where Greek, Persian and Indian learning was translated into Arabic. The Mongols sacked it in 1258 and killed the last Abbasid caliph there.
