al-Ahqaf, Also al-Ahqaf, the Sand Dunes
RegionAlso al-Ahqaf, the Sand Dunes
al-Ahqafالأحقاف
The 'curving sand dunes' of south Arabia where Hud warned the people of Ad.
'Mention the brother of Ad, when he warned his people in al-Ahqaf' (46:21). Ad saw a cloud coming toward their valleys and cried, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain!' It was a wind carrying painful punishment, and nothing was left but their dwellings (46:24-25). Tradition places the dunes on the edge of the Empty Quarter near Hadramawt.
