The Najd oasis from which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was built.
In 1902 the young Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud retook Riyadh, his family's old seat, in a night raid. From here he united most of Arabia, including the Hijaz with Makkah and Madinah, and proclaimed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932.
