Caffa (Crimea)كفا
A Crimean port from which the Black Death is said to have sailed to Europe.
The Golden Horde besieged this Genoese port in 1346. Plague broke out in the camp and passed to the city, and Genoese ships carried it to the Mediterranean. The Black Death killed perhaps a third of Europe and the Middle East, Cairo and Damascus included.
